Exploring Regulatory Changes to the Lake Heron Salmon Fishery

Sea-run salmon populations are at critically low levels currently compelling the Central South Island Fish and Game Council to explore new regulation options, in addition to those already currently in place at Lake Heron to protect lake-type salmon. Changes to the regulations may impact your fishing activities and your Lake Heron fishery values, so we are seeking your feedback to support future decision making.

Central South Island Fish & Game is seeking your feedback on potential regulatory changes to the Lake Heron lake-type salmon fishery.

Feedback from this consultation will be integrated into fishery management planning and provided to the Central South Island Fish & Game Council.

How and when can I provide feedback?

You can provide feedback via our survey. The survey will be available via email and posted on this webpage. The survey timeline is as follows:

5 January 2026: A survey link will be emailed to all Central South Island fishing licence holders, inviting them to complete the survey. Additionally, the survey link will be available here on this webpage for any angler or member of the public to complete.

30 January 2026: The survey period closes. All submissions must be made by 11:59 pm NZDT.
