Final thoughts

It is a legal requirement to have a game bird hunting licence to hunt game birds in New Zealand (except privately owned land you reside on). It is also a legal requirement to comply with the season regulations. Both these factors are enforced by Fish & Game Rangers, which may result in a fine or court case.

Although hunting and wild food gathering is currently acceptable in New Zealand, more people are now urbanised and not understanding of many shooting pursuits and harvesting of animals. We encourage hunters to be ethical, promote safe hunting and respect other users in the wild places we hunt.

Finally, our chosen pursuit, to hunt game birds, is more than harvesting, it is about enjoying the experience and the outdoors. Remember the joy should be in the doing, not the getting!!
