Lead shot for waterfowl hunting has been phased out.
The Wildlife Regulations have long stipulated the maximum size of shot that hunters may use for taking game birds. It states:
Fish & Game New Zealand reproduces the conditions contained in the Notice in the form of North and South Island booklets as free guides for game bird hunters. The regulations are amended each year to suit changing sporting and environmental conditions.
