A person has sadly drowned today at the mouth of the Awahou Stream, a Lake Rotorua tributary which discharges into the lake along its north-western shoreline.

A rahui has been declared over the area and we ask that all anglers acknowledge this and refrain from fishing at the mouth of the stream (accessible from Gloucester Road or by boat) or within 200m of the stream mouth while the rahui is in place.

The rahui is expected to be lifted on Friday morning (12 January 2017).  Your respect of the rahui will be greatly appreciated by the whanau, hapu and all others concerned.
