Trout Released For Research Into The Lower Rakaia
- 7/09/2016
Nearly 2000 brown trout are to be released next week into the Lower Rakaia as part of an attempt to learn more about the fishery.
The trout will be released into two spring fed tributaries of the Rakaia that have undergone extensive restoration work to provide a habitat that is suitable for the fish.
All fish have been double tagged and fin clipped and anglers who catch them are asked that they record where and when they caught the fish and let North Canterbury Fish and Game know.
It is highly likely that these fish will appear in surrounding rivers and Lake Ellesemere, which will provide valuable data on the regions fishery.
