Both Barrels April 2022

A Season Not To Be Missed For Lower North Island Hunters

There is a buzz around the lower North Island waterfowl hunting community that’s palpable.

What’s behind the excitement? Put simply – ducks, lots of ducks!

While at times our summer may have been a fizzer for campers and beachgoers, conditions have been perfect for the mallard population… a population that has continued to grow.

Not only did the ducks have a great breeding season, with numerous broods reported by hunters, but with the pulses of rain keeping the paddocks moist and wetlands, wet summer has ensured plenty of feed around to help ducklings fledge and get the birds in great condition.

The upsurge in the mallard population has given Wellington Fish & Game the confidence to increase bag limits again this coming season, so hunters have plenty to be excited about ahead of the 2022 game bird hunting season!

We’d love to see you back out there and invite you tograb your licence online now.

Hamish Carnachan, Wellington Fish & Game Officer/Communications Officer.
