Both Barrels July 2025 - North Canterbury

This week being the last week of the gamebird season for a lot the species you can hunt (27th July is the last day), there are still some great opportunities out there for hunters to pursuit. Here are some options below:

  • Californian quail may be harvested at up to 10 per day until 31st August. The scrub margins of all our riverbeds are good options for this.
  • Pukeko may be harvested at up to 5 per day until 31st August. Although not targeting by most hunters, can make some great sport especially with a few hunters spread out.
  • Cock Pheasant may be harvested at up to 1 bird per day over the first weekend of August (2nd-3rd).
  • Chukar may be harvested at up to 2 birds per day until 31st August.

And don't forget the summer paradise shelduck that runs from 7th February until the 15th of March next year, help our farmers out by getting a few parries for the plate!

There is also a summer mallard season which runs over the first two weekends of February (7th-8th and 14th-15th) 2026, you can only hunt in Area B which is the west side of SH1. The daily bag limit is 10 per hunter and you can only hunt over agricultural grain crops and green feed paddocks and must be more than 200 metres from any water body.

We hope you all had a great hunting season and made some great memories.
