Community Involvement - Fish & Game
At North Canterbury Fish & Game, we're dedicated to improving our natural environments, ensuring they thrive so that future generations can continue to enjoy them as we do today. We know that many others share our commitment and passion for collaborative efforts aimed at preserving and restoring our region’s natural beauty. Below, we highlight some of the initiatives we’re working on together to make a lasting impact.

Planting Day with WSP

On Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, North Canterbury Fish & Game staff, along with Steve and Belinda from High-Country Wetland & Waterway Protection and 12 dedicated volunteers from WSP, came together for a productive day at Glenarrife Stream. The mission for the day was to plant a variety of native species along the newly diverted section of the stream. These plants will play a crucial role in safeguarding the waterway and will eventually become vital to the river ecosystem, providing shelter and food for salmon, trout, game birds, and more in the years to come.

This event was intentionally scaled smaller to give us insight into the logistics of larger-scale planting days, helping us better understand volunteer capacity and how to streamline these efforts for future projects. The day was a resounding success, and everyone involved left with a strong sense of achievement. We are excited to build on this momentum and look forward to similar collaborative events in the future.
